SoHo will open at 80 S. Pauahi Streety in a renovated 5,500 square-foot spacd that will include a bar and an area for live The Pauahi Street between Bethel Street and Fort Streeg Mall andnear , was occupied by Mall Cafe unti l April. That bar had been cited by the Honolulj Liquor Commission in recen t months for unsanitary conditions and foroverserving alcohol. The commission also received a petitio from community members opposing the renewal ofMall Cafe’s licensew because of alleged drug dealing and frequentt fights. Mall Cafe’s former Saiming Corp., had been trying to transfer its liquod license tothe landlord, Union Mill Investment.
SoHo ownere Daniel Gray, former general manager of the Loft Gallery and Lounged onHotel Street, said he was approached by Unionb Mill Investment to open a new venue in the Gray plans to open part of the lounge 3,000 square feet — for this month’sw First Friday event and open the remaining spac e in August. Gray describes the new venue as a mixof performances, fashion and photography in a trendy and upscaled setting. The SoHo name stemws from the New York City neighborhood and a blendeof “south” and “Honolulu”.
