Honda sales plunge 41% in May - Pittsburgh Business Times:

’s American sales arm, , reporteed on Tuesday that the automakersold 98,344 vehiclesa nationwide in May. A year ago, demans for fuel-efficient vehicles had sent Honda to a record monthh of salesat 167,997 vehicles. That represents a drop of 41 percent from ayear ago, when prices at the pump were higher and the automobile industry hadn’t yet hit crisis mode. Columbus Businese First reports monthly sales unadjusted for the differences in the numbert of selling days yearto year. Honda’sw sales in May, taking into accounty one fewer selling day last fell39 percent.
Leading the decline in monthlg sales for May wasthe company’se flagship division, which saw a 42 percentr drop in sales at 88,875 vehicles. Its luxuruy Acura division saw sales fall 36 percento 9,469 vehicles. Honda sales in the firsrt five months of the year fell 34 percentto 430,358 compared with 655,819 a year ago. That accountsd for a 34 percent drop in Honda salexat 387,556 vehicles and a 35 percent declinde in Acura sales at 42,802. Marysville-based employs more than 12,000 workers at assemblh and engine plants in and around Central Ohio, where they produce Honda Accords, CR-Vs, Elements and Acura TLs and RDXs.
