The Pullman-based university released a preliminary budget plan on May 1 afte r the state Legislature announced an operating budget that include d significant cuts tohigher education. Wednesday’s announcement reflects the resultsz of public budget forums and meetings heldsincee then. The new budget goes into effect onJuly 1. Job reductions include 167 vacanr positions and 116 currently filled Another 47 people will take early retirement while others have shifter from full time to part WSU employs morethan 6,200 people acrossz the state.
