Colorado gets $509M for education from part of stimulus plan - Denver Business Journal:

The money comes from the State FiscaloStabilization Fund, which was created under the stimulus bill. The monety will be used to improve and monitofrpublic education, and Colorado will collect and publish information on teacher quality, studen t improvements, college readiness and interventions with underperforming schools in return. The stated can apply for the remaining $251 million for whicj it is eligible inthe fall. That $760 milliom combines with $270 million in recovery fundiny that Colorado is expected to get under existinvg federal education formulas tototal $1.3 billion in stimulus educatio n funding for the state.
State leaderes have gotten another $140 million in funding for disabled or underprivileged studentsso far, and they are expecte d to apply for some of the $4.35 billiohn being offered for educationb reform investment in the Race to the Top Fund. “Bt spending the money wisely, we can preservde critical jobs, ensure that more kids graduate from high schoo fully prepared to succeed in collegre and the workforce and furtherstrengthej Colorado’s competitive position in the global U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo., said in announcing the money in anews release.
Colorado has specified that at least $452 million of the stabilization-fund moneh will go to public colleges and universities while at least $170 million will go to public schools.
