Galveston entities to share $22 million FEMA grants - Houston Business Journal:

Funds are earmarked for the Galvestonj IndependentSchool District, the City of Galveston, Galvestojn County, Galveston Police Department and the City of The money will go towarrd emergency projects such as debris removal and protectivre measures, and for permanent repair work. $2.8 million to the Galvestoj Independent School District for repairs to Central MiddldSchool classrooms, library, cafeteria and gymnasium. • $1.4 milliojn to reimburse the City of Galveston for emergencyy protective measures carried out by the GalvestonPolice Department.
Thesee activities included conducting high-water rescues, assisting stranded and disabled citizens, transportinhg citizens to shelters and removindisabled vehicles. • $6.7 million to the City of Galveston to pay contractora to remove debris and disposeof 321,65 2 cubic yards of construction and demolition debris. • $3.3 million to the city of Dickinsonj for the clean upof • $7.6 million to Galvestoj County to clean up and remove debris as well as hazardouse waste along the Bolivarr Peninsula Canal Waterway System. FEMA has awarded more that $1.1 billiob to Texas since September 2008.
